Bengals today signed a DE (no, not Dwight Freeney). They inked Nebraska product Jack Gangwish to his first rookie deal. They now have 87 players entering camp.

Good luck stopping these big fellas

Since 2011, four defensive tackles have averaged at least six sacks per season. Leading the way is Geno Atkins, who has 40 sacks in that span despite missing seven games in 2013 due to a torn ACL.

Bengals placed three on the active/PUP list: DT Brandon Thompson, TE Tyler Eifert, WR James Wright. They also placed LB Rey Maualuga on the non-football injury list. Rookies DE Dezmond Johnson and RB DyShawn Mobley were released, and Canadian WR Rashaun Simonise was formally signed today, as well.

A pre-training camp tradition like no other. Featuring its famed mystery meat, here's the "Mock Turtle Soup" that kicks off the Bengals' media day luncheon. Seriously. No one really knows what the meat is (or won't say). This soup dates back to the luncheons Paul Brown would hold after he founded the team (hopefully this particular bowl doesn't date that far back).

Bengals owner Mike Brown: "Vontaze Burfict is one hell of a football player. We want him on the football field. We regret that we won't have him for three games, but he'll be back after that. He's a difference maker, and we're lucky to have him."

Bengals owner and president Mike Brown repeats what's become an annual message: "We know we still have to take the next step."

All eyes will be on Tyler Eifert's recovery

The Bengals' top tight end was hurt in the Pro Bowl and looks doubtful to be ready by Week 1. For now, that's Cincinnati's biggest health concern. Injury questions

Can Dalton shine with unproven targets?

Andy Dalton had easily the best season of his career in 2015, but his group of targets is awfully different entering 2016. ESPN Stats & Info breaks it down as we prepare for training camp. Top stats to know

The Bengals are down to 88 players on their 90-man roster after releasing recently signed safety Taylor Mays on Saturday. He had returned to Cincy after a year away. His size and coverage ability had been touted as strengths when he initially came back.

Joining Dre Kirkpatrick at his camp is WR James Wright. The Bengals hope Wright will be able to contribute this season after he missed all of 2015 with a knee injury. He says he feels OK. We'll soon see. Wright could play a key role in the Bengals' ability to set their WR rotation behind A.J. Green.

The Bengals are still six days from training camp, but CB Dre Kirkpatrick is already back in Cincinnati, hosting his "Kirk's Kids Kamp" at Taft High School.

Good protection is hard to find

Good offensive linemen are worth their weight in gold. John Clayton expects Bengals guard Kevin Zeitler to earn that and more after this season. Clayton: 2017 best free agents (Insider)

The hiring of minority coaches has been a hot topic this week. Among African American coaches, Dennis Green ranks second in most all-time wins (113), according to ESPN Stats & Information. Tony Dungy is first with 139. Third on the list? Marvin Lewis, who currently has 112. Lewis' seven career playoff appearances also is one short of Green's eight. They are only outpaced by Dungy's 11 postseason trips.

We're exactly one week from the start of Bengals training camp. How often will we see Adam Jones and A.J. Green matched up this summer? And which of them will win most of those matchups?
