Bengals didn't panic in draft

Cincinnati avoided the temptation to reach for a receiver in the first round after the top three prospects came off the board. John Clayton thinks it's about time someone gives the Bengals credit for their savvy drafting. Clayton: Top draft classes

Andy Dalton met with reporters in Cincinnati today to give an update on the work his foundation has been doing. Since 2011, the Andy & Jordan Dalton Foundation has raised more than $1.1 million for seriously ill and physically challenged children and their families. On Saturday, the foundation is holding its first golf tournament. Several of his Bengals teammates are expected to attend.

"Power" is the big thing Bengals DE Margus Hunt is trying to hone this year. To get more of it, he went back to his old Olympic-style training methods this offseason. It means he's been doing more cleans, jerks and snatches as part of his training regimen. He's been working alongside former college track teammate and French Olympian (hammer throw) Jérôme Bortoluzzi as he trains for Rio.

Today was the deadline for teams to exercise fifth-year options on 2013 first-round picks. The Bengals exercised theirs on their lone 2013 first-rounder, Tyler Eifert, about three weeks ago.

Bengals CB Adam Jones put on his scout's cap before the draft and broke down tape of the top corners. He does it every year for fun. Jones' favorite corner this year was the first-rounder the Bengals picked, William Jackson III. Jones actually liked him over fifth-overall pick Jalen Ramsey: "A lot of plays Ramsey made, he was already beaten. ... I only saw like two plays where (Jackson) was beaten on the deep ball."

Bengals continue to dominate draft

Mel Kiper Jr. can't remember the last time he gave the Bengals a poor draft grade. As Kiper notes, "They have a plan and they consistently get excellent value." NFL draft grades (Insider)

Bengals' best pick: Tyler Boyd

Cincinnati needed a No. 2 receiver opposite A.J. Green, and Boyd, from the University of Pittsburgh, is the perfect fit, a savvy route runner who can find holes in zone coverage. Todd McShay (Insider)

Marvin Lewis calls this a productive draft for the Bengals. "The NFL is such a cycle that you have to improve and stay young. That's the evolution we have to go through all the time." Believes the defensive picks can help in the future and the WRs can try to earn opportunity quickly.

Highlights: Clayton Fejedelem

The Bengals added another defensive back in Round 7, taking the former Illini safety. Check out some of Fejedelem's best highlights.

This is the complete Bengals draft haul: 1. William Jackson III, CB; 2. Tyler Boyd, WR; 3. Nick Vigil, LB; 4. Andrew Billings, DT; 5. Christian Westerman, OG; 6. Cody Core, WR. 7. Clayton Fejedelem, S.

And for their final pick in the draft, the Bengals take S Clayton Fejedelem from Illinois. The seventh-round selection will help Cincinnati address depth in the secondary. Earlier this offseason, the Bengals lost veteran safety Reggie Nelson but signed Taylor Mays back.
