Megatron leads all-retirement team

Calvin Johnson was an easy choice for our squad of players who hung up their cleats this offseason. Hypothetically, he'd be catching passes from Peyton Manning. All-retirement team

Marvin Jones + Anquan Boldin = Megatron?

The math is never that simple, especially when you're trying to replace a six-time Pro Bowler. But the additions of Jones and Boldin should lessen the departure of Calvin Johnson.

Lions HC Jim Caldwell coached under the late Dennis Green at Northwestern and was a player for Iowa when Green was an assistant. Green also gave Caldwell one of his early breaks in coaching. Caldwell released this statement late Friday: "Dennis was one of the men that had a tremendous influence on many of us. He created a great legacy of winning and without question was one of the very best motivators of our time. He was brilliant, tough minded and an outstanding leader. "The lessons I learned from him are ones that I have utilized throughout my career and still use today. His impact on me, both as a coach and a person, is something I will forever cherish. My deepest sympathies to his wife Marie and to his children."

Can the Lions afford to keep Darius Slay?

At just 25 years old, Slay is developing into one of the NFL's better cover corners. The Lions might have to franchise him, notes John Clayton, if they can't get a long-term deal done. Clayton: Best 2017 free agents (Insider)

Former Lions interim GM Sheldon White has a new job and he's staying in the state of Michigan. White was hired Friday as a "program consultant" for Michigan State. It is not entirely clear what White's job will entail, but he will be working with the Spartans. White was last in colleges in 1996, when he coached receivers at Miami (Ohio). Interestingly, White's son, Cody, is a WR commit to the Spartans for 2017.

The Lions signed OT Luke Marquardt on Thursday, the second player Detroit has signed in as many days. Marquardt was briefly with the Jets earlier this offseason. He was initially with San Francisco after going undrafted in 2013 out of Azuza Pacific.
