The Texans promoted Amy Palcic to senior director of communications. She is the only woman in the top PR spot for the football side of an NFL team. With her promotion the city of Houston has two women in charge of PR departments for the city's major professional sports teams. The Rockets director of media and player relations is Tracey Hughes.

Asked about Broncos coach Gary Kubiak, DC Wade Phillips and d-line coach Bill Kollar, JJ Watt said: "They're truly good human beings. I truly wish the absolute best for them." Watt expressed thanks for each man's role in his career. They held the same jobs on the Texans staff when Watt entered the league in 2011.

Texans defensive end JJ Watt received 37 of 50 votes for defensive player of the year. He is one of two players to have won the award three times. Los Angeles Rams tackle Aaron Donald got seven votes, Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly got four votes and Panthers cornerback Josh Norman got 2 votes.

Triple crown: Watt collects his 3rd DPOY award

Texans DE J.J. Watt tied Lawrence Taylor by winning his third Defensive Player of the Year award. Eric Berry (comeback) and Todd Gurley (offensive rookie) also were among the winners.
