Dry run for San Francisco
San Francisco's starters should be getting plenty of playing time against the Broncos. The 49ers plan to treat their third preseason game against Denver as a trial run for the regular season. Saturday camp preview
The San Francisco 49ers play their third preseason home game at 9 p.m. ET Sunday at the Denver Broncos. Here's a couple of things to watch for.
Who’s Colin Kaepernick’s main target?
Anquan Boldin was Mr. Dependable last season for his QB. Boldin does well in tight quarters, so don’t be surprised if Kaep looks for him often. Red zone targets

The 49ers still plan on treating Saturday's third exhibition as a dry run for a regular season game despite having had two joint practices with the Broncos this week. "Our (starting) guys will play a little more this week than they have in the last couple of games," Niners coach Jim Tomsula said following Thursday's workouts. For 49ers fans, that means more work for the likes of quarterback Colin Kaepernick and running back Carlos Hyde, seen here in a training camp practice in Santa Clara.
ESPN NFL Insider Mark Dominik covers young talent at the QB position, teams' mindset in Week 3 of the preseason, Michael Bennett's outspokenness, the Bills' QB situation and the 49ers' outlook.
Who’s left to rush the passer?
Among all the issues for the 49ers off the field, they continue their search for a replacement pass-rusher. Who's going to stand out during Saturday night's game against the Broncos? Friday camp preview

Young 49ers have plenty to prove
The way things have been going in San Francisco, the team needs its younger players to step up as soon as possible. Eric Reid is already a Pro Bowler, who else could get there? Best under-25 talent (Insider)
Former California and NFL star Andre Carter has returned to the Golden Bears' football program as a student assistant coach.

49ers’ new deep threat
Receiver Torrey Smith is known as one of the fastest vertical runners in the NFL. Expect Colin Kaepernick to find him deep and often. Biggest offseason moves (Insider)

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has a fan in Hall of Famer John Elway. "I've always liked Colin," Elway, now the Broncos G.M., told reporters Thursday, following the second of two joint practices between the teams in Colorado. "I think he's very athletic and I think that he's a guy that will make a lot of big plays. He's doing more within the pocket, which I think, as he continues to do that, it's going to help him. He's a great athlete and he's got that big play ability to avoid things and make things happen."
Charges against Ahmad Brooks are the latest in a series of mistakes for a 49ers organization trying desperately to regain its footing.
Broncos star linebacker Von Miller is among those impressed by Australian rugby league star Jarryd Hayne as he attempts to play in the NFL.
49ers' new-look O-line
Guard Marcus Martin moved to center during the 49ers' joint practice against the Broncos. Keep an eye out for more tweaks during the team's second joint practice on Thursday. Thursday camp preview
