INDIANAPOLIS -- Colts receiver Donnie Avery won't get a chance to face his old team after all.

Indianapolis says two key free-agent acquisitions -- Avery and defensive end Cory Redding -- will not play in the preseason opener Sunday against St. Louis. Both were injured in practice during the past week.

Avery is out with a bruised left thigh. Redding injured his left elbow, but the Colts have not disclosed the severity of the injury.

Also out for the Colts are offensive guard Justin Anderson and defensive tackle Josh Chapman, who have not yet practiced, and outside linebacker Tim Fugger, who was just activated Saturday.

The Rams will be without receiver Danario Alexander (hamstring) and defensive tackle Trevor Laws, who hasn't practiced over the past week because of an undisclosed leg injury.
