Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will go through pregame warms-ups, but will not play against the San Diego Chargers on Friday, ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen confirmed Thursday.
Coach Leslie Frazier said Tuesday that Peterson would not play in any preseason games as he continues his recovery from surgery to fix tears in his anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament.
"There are no setbacks. That's not the reason we're doing it," Frazier said. "We just feel like more time with him in practice with some of the things that we're doing and the progression of getting him ready for the season, it's the right thing to do."
The Vikings' opener is Sept. 9 against Jacksonville. Frazier declined Tuesday to guarantee that Peterson will be cleared to play in that game, but according to Mortensen, that remains the Vikings' and Peterson's goal.
