Packers put Desmond Bishop on IR
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers placed linebacker Desmond Bishop on injured reserve on Monday, ending his season.
Bishop, a key cog in the Packers' defense, tore his right hamstring in the team's first preseason game at San Diego. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said at the time that Bishop's season was in jeopardy. He had to have surgery, so the IR move was widely expected.

ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert writes about all things NFC North in his division blog.
Bishop, a sixth-year player out of California, started 13 games for the Packers last season -- missing three with a calf injury -- and had five sacks. D.J. Smith is expected to take his place.
The Packers also placed running back Duane Bennett, tight end DeMarco Cosby, guard Ray Dominguez, defensive end Johnny Jones and wide receiver Shaky Smithson on injured reserve.
Tight end Andrew Quarless and linebacker Frank Zombo were placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, meaning they will miss at least the first six games of the season.
Green Bay released defensive end Jarius Wynn and fullback Jon Hoese.
On Friday, the Packers released defensive end Anthony Hargrove, wide receiver Andrew Brewer, safety Micah Pellerin, offensive tackle Herb Taylor and cornerback Dion Turner. Hargrove was facing an eight-game suspension for his alleged role in the Saints bounty pool.
NFL teams were required to reduce their rosters to 75 players by 4 p.m. ET on Monday. The final roster reduction, from 75 to 53 players, must be completed by 9 p.m. ET on Friday.
