Prep Career
Lucky lived in Dallas through seventh grade, then moved to the Los Angeles area where his uncle and a guardian currently reside in North Hollywood. At North Hollywood High School in North Hollywood, CA, Lucky was one of the nation's most sought-after prep prospects. Both Scout.com and Rivals.com ranked Lucky as the No. 2 running back in the nation (behind Antone Smith and Jonathan Stewart respectively). After making an October visit to the Nebraska campus, Lucky committed to the Cornhuskers in November of 2004. He finished his senior season with 2,036 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns, earning him national All-America honors.

His first career 100-yard game came against Nicholls State (103 yards on 18 attempts) and he topped that later in the season, rushing for 156 yards on just 10 rushes against Troy. Lucky earned second team All-Big 12 honors.
Junior Year
Lucky's junior season started off with a bang, as he rushed for 233 yards and three touchdowns against Nevada. He finished the season with a team- and career-high 1,019 yards on 206 rushes, including nine touchdowns. However, rushing was only part of Lucky's game as a junior. He set a Nebraska record with 75 receptions, going for 705 yards and three touchdowns. His 143.7 yards from scrimmage per game ranked second in the Big 12, behind only Michael Crabtree. He repeated as a second team All-Big 12 selection.
Senior Year
As a senior, Lucky was again used in a time-sharing situation in the backfield, splitting carries with Roy Helu and Quentin Castille. He finished with 517 yards on 125 attempts with seven touchdowns. Lucky finished his Nebraska career fourth on the school's all-purpose yardage list with 4,257 career yards. He was also fourth on Nebraska's all-time receptions list with 135. After his senior season, Lucky was chosen to participate in the East-West Shrine Game. He rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown on just seven attempts, earning game MVP honors.
