Rushen Jones

CB | (5-10, 201, 4.55) | Vanderbilt
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Started every game in '99 and '00 and the first four in '01 before suffering a broken hand in practice. Missed six games but returned for the finale. Had 44 tackles and broke up five passes with two interceptions in 1999; 44-7-1 in '00; 22-3-0 in '01; and 66-7-0 in 12 games last season. Invited to play in Hula Bowl.

Positives: Explosive, quick-twitch athlete. Well-built, active and will support run. Good tackler. Jumps well and can change directions. Reacts to ball. Keys, diagnoses and can cover man-on-man. Captain and leader. Good athletic ability and hips. Can shed, tackle and wrap up. Strong, stocky physical corner. Alert and aware.

Negatives: Can be turned and beaten at times. Lacks great catchup speed and height. Poor in coverage. Lacks football intelligence. Lives off pure speed. Questionable toughness vs. Georgia Tech. Had a poor senior year, when he was beat deep, struggled turning and running and playing the ball. Poor competitor and production. More quick than fast.

Summary: Best-suited to play in a cover-2 type of defense like the Jets and Buccaneers use, where the corners are generally rolled up and not asked to cover deep.
