James Scott

DB | (6-0, 190, 4.55) | Miami (FL)
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Has played running back, wide receiver and defensive back at Miami and has done some long-snapping. Redshirted in 1998. Carried six times for six yards in '99 and made seven tackles. Had five stops and his first interception on defense in '00 and also rushed once for a seven-yard score. Backup free safety in '01. Had six tackles, one pass broken up and one interception playing behind the best secondary in the country. Backup who appeared in five games in '02, recording five tackles.

Positives: Has good size, seems to have good speed and is an all-around athlete. Looks the part. Good leaper who goes up for the ball in the air. Wrap-up tackler. Tough in run support.

Negatives: He is still raw and inexperienced. Is not a big hitter. Can be a straight-liner. Needs to improve change of direction.

Summary: Has the physical tools and athleticism to be a good center-fielder at free safety, but never started and does not have good technique. Long-snapping is a plus, but will need a lot of coaching. Worth bringing to camp.
