Sam Rayburn

DT | (6-2, 297, 5.2) | Tulsa
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Played in seven games as a true freshman in 1999, but missed four games because of injury. Recorded 19 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks. In 2000, he played in 10 games and had 21 tackles. Had 37-161-4 in 11 games as a junior in '01. Made a school-record 171 tackles for loss and had 61 total tackles and four sacks in '02, when he was named first-team All-Western Athletic Conference.

Positives: A hard-working, productive player with good size who shows flashes of quickness and playmaking skills. Can get through the line and make effort plays.

Negatives: Doesn't have great speed or athletic ability and downshifts when he changes directions. Can gain leverage but too often loses it playing upright. Doesn't use his hands well, and his overall technique needs work.

Summary: There is room for Rayburn in an NFL camp because he is determined, focused and willing. However, he'll have to make the most of his chance to have an extended audition.
