Merrill Robertson

LB | (6-1, 250, 4.85) | Virginia
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Played fullback for the first five games in 1999 before moving to defensive end. Rotated at defensive end in 2000 with his only start coming in team's bowl game. Moved to inside linebacker in '01. Started the opener, was hurt and missed two games before coming back. Was in and out of the starting lineup but was never healthy in '01. Had 19 tackles and his first sack in 1999; 34-1 in 2000; 29-2 in '01; and 122-5 in '02.

Positives: Square, thick, wide body. Stays on feet and gives a good effort. Makes some big hits. Plays hurt. Looks the part. Tough and bangs. Handled position change well in '01 and showed what he could do when he was healthy in '02. Good strength.

Negatives: Struggled reading keys, diagnosing plays and locating the ball. Gets juked and misses tackles. Lacks feet and agility in coverage. Hesitates. Poor in space, but worth noting that he played with a bad ankle at times in '02 and got caught in traffic while in pursuit. Struggled moving laterally and changing directions. A little stiff and lacks speed to cover.

Summary: Was productive as a senior, but wasn't close to being the top linebacker on his own college team.
