RB | (5-11, 195, 4.55) | Northern Iowa
By Pro Football WeeklyNotes: Top high school long-jumper who had broad jump of 10 feet, 11 inches at Northern Iowa. Carried 108 times for 427 yards and five touchdowns and caught 12 passes for 121 yards in six games (three starts) as a true freshman in 1998. Started 10 times in '99, carrying 166-778-9 and catching 21-172. Sat out in 2000 for personal reasons and returned to start seven of 14 games in '01, when he carried 241-1,383-16, caught 10-41 and returned 25 kickoffs for 588 yards. Started all 11 games in '02, when he carried 271-1,133-6 and caught 14-103.Positives: Quick, athletic runner who has some make-you-miss ability. Could evolve as a return specialist and has the quickness to be a kick and punt returner.Negatives: Lacks size and strength. Benge is a narrow-based runner who is built more like a receiver or cornerback. Is a poor blocker who lacks power to run inside. Can't create his own hole and could not handle criticism in college.Summary: Might have a chance as a scatback or returner but he isn't big enough to be an every-down guy.* Player biographies are provided by Pro Football Weekly.
