Keith Burnell

RB | (5-10, 204, 4.37) | Delaware
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Redshirted at Virginia Tech in 1998. Carried seven times for 14 yards in '99. Played in nine games in 2000 and carried 17-111 and one touchdown. Played in every game, started seven times after Lee Suggs was hurt in '01 and rushed for 149-707-9. Also caught seven passes for 26 yards. Lost his starting job to superfreshman Kevin Jones by the end of the year. With Suggs coming back and Jones established, the coaches asked Burnell to move to defensive back or wide receiver in the spring. Instead, he decided to leave Virginia Tech and transfer down so he would be eligible to play in '02 and could play running back. Selected Delaware, where he became a starter four games into the year and finished with 220-956-9 rushing and 14-88 receiving.

Positives: Well-built with adequate size and exceptional timed speed.

Negatives: Non-creative, straight-line runner who only gets what is there. Needs a hole to run through. Tends to gear down on impact instead of finishing his runs. Does not play to timed speed. Average receiver.

Summary: Would not be considered if not for his timed speed and pretty body. Still, with his speed he could have a chance if he gets a little tougher.
