Ryan Johnson

RB | (6-0, 205, 4.65) | Montana State
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Started three of 10 games in '99. Started eight times in 2000, when he missed three games with a hyperextended left knee, and started every game in '01. Really came into his own in '01, rushing for 1,537 yards and 14 touchdowns on 303 carries and catching 18 passes for 201 yards and a score. Missed spring '02 because of back pain. Played 11 out of 13 games in '02, carrying 269-1,092-7 and catching 27-163-0.

Positives: Very competitive kid who also excels in the classroom, where he has a 3.9-plus GPA. Quick out of his stance. Can play at 220 pounds or 230 if he can keep that weight on. Has some burst and good vision. Is a decent receiver and an overachiever in everything he does.

Negatives: Doesn't have fullback size right now and also lacks running back speed. His skills as a runner aren't pro grade. Played well, but against low-level competition. Back problems may have stemmed from too many carries in '01 season.

Summary: Doesn't have the pure speed and is not as special as his stats would indicate.
