Montrell Lowe

RB | (5-7, 190, 4.7) | Purdue
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Started six of the last seven games in '99, seven of 12 in 2000 and 10-of-12 in '01. Carried 173 times for 841 yards and five touchdowns and caught four passes for 22 yards in 1999. Rushed 226-998-6 and caught 2-16 in 2000. Carried 183-640-4 and caught 9-51 in '01. Played in six games in '02, rushing 30-169-0, after losing his starting job to junior Joey Harris.

Positives: Short, tough runner who is more quick than fast and has a heart as big as he is. Lowe runs hard and has some pick, slide and vision.

Negatives: Is not much of a make-you-miss guy or a creator. Size is a problem in the passing game and as a blocker. Has been working very hard to improve his speed and weaknesses and reportedly has improved his timed speed since timing day in the spring of '02.

Summary: Lowe has very marginal pro tools, but don't totally discount a productive Big Ten player with heart.
