Zach Hilton

TE | (6-7, 262, 4.81) | North Carolina
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Redshirted in 1998. Played in '99 but did not catch a pass. Team's third tight end behind Alge Crumpler and Dauntať Finger in 2000 and did not catch a pass. Played in every game and started the last eight in '01, catching 12 passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Started all 12 games in '02 and caught 19-258-1. Also played in the East-West Shrine Game and Hula Bowl and had a fine workout at the Scouting Combine, where he showed better athleticism and did not look as clumsy as he has at times in the past.

Positives: Huge target with surprisingly good speed and good hands. Catches the ball and will catch it away from the frame of his body. Adjusts well to the ball and is a great weapon near the goal line. Is strong and physical in a crowd. Works hard to improve, especially as a blocker.

Negatives: Eases off the line and into blocks. Doesn't run precise routes or change directions well. Blocks high and struggles to get low enough and gain leverage. Overextends on the second level. Can look clumsy and stumble at his break point. Shows some stiffness and inconsistent foot speed.

Summary: Rare size is a plus, especially with his hands as the bonus prize. Under the right coaching staff and in the right situation, he could really develop.
