Brian Sump

WR | (5-11, 185, 4.5) | Colorado Mines
By Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Played just one year of high school football and did not even start. Walk-on in 1999 who wound up starting five times. Has been a regular the past three years. Caught 59 passes for 1,175 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2001, with a long of 80. Also returned 18 punts for 219 yards and 21 kickoffs for 780 yards and four scores, leading Division II in kickoff returns with a 37.1-yard average. Played in only nine games in '02 but caught 46-849-7 and had 1,302 all-purpose yards.

Positives: An above-average athlete, solid student and productive player who at times dominated lower-level competition with speed and skill. Sump is quick off the line, has a little burst to separate, will extend for the ball and adjusts to the deep ball well.

Negatives: Probably looked a lot better, more athletic and more skillful than he really is because of the competition he faced. Very hard to evaluate. Is a big fish in a tiny pond, and is virtually untested vs. the jam because most defensive backs back off and give him cushion.

Summary: Would be an interesting player to bring to camp to see how he does but is a real longshot.
