GM Burke will not move players before holiday: 'The players appreciate it'

December, 9, 2008
PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Toronto Maple Leafs players can rest easy now until the day after Christmas.

The NHL's official trade freeze runs from Dec. 19-26, but GM Brian Burke's self-imposed freeze starts 10 days before. He doesn't like moving players during the holidays. So as of Tuesday, Burke's demolition of the current roster is on hold.

"I did this in Anaheim and Vancouver, as well," Burke told us. "The players appreciate it."

Besides, the new Leafs GM and president said it's not like he's been offered a trade that made him think twice since he's taken over.

"Yeah, I've had trade offers, some real anvils," Burke said. "I've been offered some world-class … salaries."
