Bill Guerin likely to make move, but where? Answer to come Monday
Bill Guerin has given the green light to his potential new team, but the New York Islanders will wait until Monday to try to finalize a trade for the veteran winger, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com on Sunday night.
Guerin, who has a no-trade clause, approved the move Sunday, but talks between the Isles and the unidentified NHL team will spill into Monday. The Islanders captain is an unrestricted free agent July 1. He was pulled after warm-ups before a game against the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night when trade talks heated up. A source said he was likely heading to an Eastern Conference team.
We've been lied to before, but when ESPN.com contacted front-office sources in Boston, New Jersey, Florida, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Carolina, Buffalo and New York (Rangers), all denied having any interest or intention of acquiring Guerin. The source in Washington would not comment either way.
Stay tuned, puckheads. We should know the end of this story Monday.
