TORONTO -- Alex Ovechkin wasn't kidding when he said he was a fan of Don Cherry.

The Washington Capitals superstar winger showed his sense of humor Tuesday evening, coming out of the visitors' dressing room at Air Canada Centre for his soccer-ball warm-up routine around 5:40 p.m. ET wearing a "Coach's Corner" T-shirt and "Hockey Night in Canada" boxer shorts. On the back of the shirt, someone had written the word: "RESPECT."

Ovechkin was criticized late last month by Cherry on "Coach's Corner" for his emotional goal celebrations. That debate took on another level Thursday when Ovechkin scored his 50th goal in Tampa and made headlines for his "staged" celebration.

Check out our blog from Ovechkin's post-morning skate session with the media earlier Tuesday.
