Wings retire Nicklas Lidstrom's No. 5

DETROIT -- Nicklas Lidstrom was the last person to speak at his Detroit Red Wings jersey-retirement ceremony.

He might have spoken the least while saying the most, fitting for a player who was subtly spectacular on the ice.

Lidstrom was honored Thursday night before Detroit lost to the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in OT. A red banner -- with his last name and No. 5 in white -- was raised to the rafters.
