Hurricanes award top goalie $2.35 million deal
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Kevin Weekes beat out Arturs Irbe last season to become the No. 1 goaltender for the Carolina Hurricanes, and Friday he was rewarded with a one-year contract worth $2.35 million.
Weekes, a restricted free agent, made $2.2 million including bonuses for the season that just ended.
Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford said Weekes wasn't signed to a long-term deal because of the uncertainty with labor negotiations. The NHL's collective bargaining agreement will expire ...
