Rangers get defenseman, draftee

NEW YORK -- Winger Matthew Barnaby was traded by the New York Rangers on Monday night, along with a third-round pick in this year's draft, to the Colorado Avalanche for defensemen Chris McAllister and David Liffiton.

New York, the busiest team leading up to Tuesday's NHL trade deadline, also acquired a second-round choice in the 2004 draft the Avalanche previously acquired from Florida.
