Oiler re-hire Craig MacTavish as VP

EDMONTON -- The Edmonton Oilers have hired former coach Craig MacTavish as senior vice president of hockey operations.

The 53-year-old MacTavish coached the Oilers for eight seasons from 2000-09, including Edmonton's run to the Stanley Cup final in 2006 when it lost in seven games to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The London, Ontario, native was fired after the Oilers missed the playoffs for a third straight season.
