The Chicago Blackhawks had a simple formula in winning the Presidents' Trophy as the team with the best regular-season record, and setting an NHL mark by earning at least one point in each of their first 24 games of the season: Possess the puck.

Ignoring special-teams play and lead-protecting situations, the Blackhawks had possession of the puck this season 56.1 percent of the time. That was the second-highest percentage in the league, behind only the Los Angeles Kings (57.3 percent), whom Chicago eliminated in the Western Conference finals in five games.

The Boston Bruins were fourth-best (54.5 percent), and are being outshot by the Blackhawks 155-123 overall during even-strength in the Stanley Cup finals. So why does Chicago find itself in a 2-2 series tie?
