Panthers get Bernier, Grabner and pick

The Panthers and Canucks have agreed to a deal for Florida defenseman Keith Ballard.

Florida sent Ballard and Victor Oreskovich to Vancouver for winger Steve Bernier, forward Michael Grabner and the Canucks' first-round pick, No. 25 overall.

With the No. 25 selection, the Panthers took left wing Quinton Howden from Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League.

While new Florida GM Dale Tallon continued to put his stamp on the Panthers by trading Ballard after earlier sending Nathan Horton to Boston, he declined to move center Stephen Weiss. The Minnesota Wild had been interested in Weiss, 27, who had 28 goals this past season, but a deal could not be consummated.

Ballard had eight goals and 20 assists in 82 games this past season for the Panthers.
