Anaheim Mighty Ducks
Signed center Adam Oates to a two-year, $7 million deal.

Atlanta Thrashers
Acquired left wing Vyacheslav Kozlov from the Buffalo Sabres for second- and third-round picks in the 2002 draft; acquired left wing Shawn McEachern and a 2003 sixth-round draft pick from the Ottawa Senators for defenseman Brian Pothier.

Buffalo Sabres
Acquired center Jochen Hecht from the Edmonton Oilers for two 2002 second-round draft picks; traded left wing Vyacheslav Kozlov to the Atlanta Thrashers for second- and third-round picks in the 2002 draft.

Calgary Flames
Acquired goaltender Jamie McLennan from the Minnesota Wild for a 2002 ninth-round draft pick; acquired the rights to goaltender Curtis Joseph from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a conditional 2004 eighth-round draft pick.

Carolina Hurricanes
Signed defenseman Bret Hedican to a six-year contract for an estimated $18 million, meaning he won't be headed to the open market; signed 39-year-old captain Ron Francis to a two-year, $11 million deal; Jeff O'Neill signed a two-year, $6.8 million contract.

Chicago Blackhawks
Acquired left wing Sergei Berezin from the Montreal Canadiens for a 2004 fourth-round draft pick.

Columbus Blue Jackets
Traded goaltender Ron Tugnutt and a 2002 second-round draft pick to the Dallas Stars for a 2002 first-round draft pick.

Dallas Stars
Acquired goaltender Ron Tugnutt and a 2002 second-round draft pick from the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 2002 first-round draft pick; traded defenseman Brad Lukowich and a 2002 seventh-round draft pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a 2002 second-round draft pick; acquired right wing David Gosselin and a 2003 fifth-round draft pick from the Nashville Predators for right wing Cameron Mann and the rights to goaltender Ed Belfour.

Edmonton Oilers
Acquired center Jiri Dopita from the Philadelphia Flyers for a 2003 third-round draft pick and a 2004 conditional fifth-round pick; traded center Jochen Hecht to the Buffalo Sabres for two 2002 second-round draft picks; Acquired rights to New York Rangers goalie Mike Richter for future considerations.

Traded the rights to right wing Theo Fleury and a 2003 sixth-round draft pick to the San Jose Sharks for a 2002 sixth-round draft pick; acquired left wing Krzysztof Oliwa from the Pittsburgh Penguins for future considerations; Traded the rights to goalie Mike Richter to Edmonton for future considerations.
