BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins traded goaltender John Grahame to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday for a fourth-round draft pick in 2004.

Grahame had an 11-9-2 record and a 2.71 goals-against average in 23 games this season. He had been platooning with Steve Shield.

The Bruins, who have won just three of their last 15 games (3-11-1), also recalled goalie Andrew Raycroft from their AHL team in Providence, R.I.

``We felt that it was time to make a change for the team,'' Bruins general manager Mike O'Connell said. ``We gave John an opportunity but we thought that we needed to try to get better at that position.''

Grahame's career record is 29-30-9 with a 2.77 goals-against average in 76 games. The Bruins selected him in the ninth round of the 1994 draft.

"I always tell myself not be surprised because you never know what's going to happen,'' Grahame said.

During the 2000-01 season, Grahame was suspended without pay after breaking his ankle before the season. In March 2001, he was fined and suspended for two games for throwing part of his broken stick into the stands while with Providence. The stick hit an 8-year-old boy, who was not hurt.

Raycroft has played 16 games for the Bruins the past three seasons. He had a 15-8-2 record and a 2.66 goals-against average in 26 games with Providence this season.
