Defenseman not expected to return

DETROIT -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Derian Hatcher left Detroit's game against Vancouver on Thursday night because of a sprained knee.

Hatcher was hurt when he got tangled up with Vancouver's Markus Naslund and Bryan Allen early in the first period.

"He went for a MRI," Detroit coach Dave Lewis said. "We'll probably get results tomorrow."

Hatcher signed a five-year, $30 million contract with Detroit in July after spending the first 12 seasons of his career with the Dallas Stars organization.

He was runner-up for the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenseman last season.
