Coach: Forward's injury 'pretty substantial'

TORONTO -- Carolina Hurricanes forward Pavel Brendl left Monday night's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs with a collarbone injury.

Toronto's Bryan McCabe knocked Brendl out of the game with a hard hip check late in the second period. Brendl was motionless on the ice for a few minutes. He's expected to be out indefinitely.

"He's got a collarbone injury. It's pretty substantial," Carolina coach Peter Laviolette said. "He's going to miss some time. He's got big collarbone problems."

Brendl has five goals and three assists in 17 games this season.

The Hurricanes won the game 2-1.
