Coyotes waive former top pick Kolanos

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Phoenix Coyotes placed center
Krystofer Kolanos on waivers Thursday.

If no other NHL team claims Kolanos by Friday, he would be
assigned to the Coyotes' AHL affiliate in San Antonio.

Kolanos, 24, has two goals and an assist in nine games for
Phoenix this season and has been a healthy scratch for most of the
other games.

Kolanos, whose overtime goal won the NCAA championship for
Boston College in 2001, was the Coyotes' top pick in the 2000 NHL
draft and he had 11 goals and 11 assists in 57 games in 2001-02.

But Kolanos has struggled since suffering two concussions -- one
in January of his rookie year that cost him 22 games and another in
Phoenix's first preseason game in 2002-03, causing him to miss all
but that season's final two games.
