Avs' Konowalchuk out for season with wrist injury

DENVER -- Colorado Avalanche left wing Steve Konowalchuk
will have surgery on his right wrist and be out the rest of the

"Further examination along with an MRI confirmed that Steve has
torn ligaments in his right wrist and that surgery is necessary,"
Avalanche head athletic trainer Matt Sokolowski said Sunday. "We
anticipate the recovery time to be between six and seven months."
The Avalanche assistant captain, who was injured Nov. 21 in a
game against Calgary, had been a major contributor with 15 points,
including six goals, and was plus-5 in 21 games.
The Avalanche called up 20-year-old center Brad Richardson from
Lowell. He will be making his NHL debut. Richardson was Colorado's
fourth selection in the 2003 Entry Draft.
