Panthers center Weiss likely out rest of season

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Florida Panthers center Stephen Weiss most
likely will miss the rest of the regular season because of a torn
ligament in his left wrist that requires surgery.

Weiss had an MRI exam Monday and is scheduled for surgery
Tuesday. He missed the past four games and doesn't know when he
hurt his wrist.

"It was sore for about two months," he said. "I was playing
until I couldn't play anymore."

Weiss hopes to return this season if the Panthers make the
playoffs. He is fourth on the team in scoring with nine goals and
12 assists. He was the Panthers' first draft choice in 2001 and
fourth overall.
