Jagr, Emery named players of month

NEW YORK -- After tying the NHL record for wins in a calendar month, Ottawa Senators goaltender Ray Emery on Monday was named the league's defensive player of the month.

Pressed into regular duty following a groin injury suffered by Dominik Hasek at the Olympics, Emery started every game for the Senators and went 12-2-2, tying the league record for victories in a month set by Philadelphia's Bernie Parent in March 1974.

Emery posted a 2.09 goals-against average and .925 save percentage with two shutouts during the month.

New York Rangers right winger Jaromir Jagr was named the offensive player of the month after leading all players with 26 points.

Jagr had 12 goals and 14 assists in March, which he ended with an 11-game point streak. He leads the NHL with 114 points (52 goals, 62 assists).
