Arbitrator awards Blackhawks' Calder $2.95 million

TORONTO-- Kyle Calder's career season with the Chicago Blackhawks has paid off handsomely for him.

Calder, who recorded career bests of 26 goals and 59 points last
season, on Thursday was awarded a one-year, $2.95 million
contract for 2006-07 by an arbitrator.

After having his arbitration hearing on Monday, Calder more than
doubled his income thanks to a breakthrough campaign. The
27-year-old left wing made $1.311 million in 2005-06, when he
led the Blackhawks in goals, assists (33), points and
game-winning goals (six).

A fifth-round pick in 1997, Calder has appeared in 359 games
over six seasons with Chicago, recording 85 goals, 125 assists
and 184 penalty minutes.
