Avs re-sign high-scoring Svatos to one-year deal

DENVER -- The Colorado Avalanche re-signed forward
Marek Svatos to a one-year deal Tuesday.

Svatos scored 32 goals in his rookie season for the Avalanche,
including nine game-winners and 12 on the power play, before his
season was cut short by a shoulder injury.

"Marek played a key role in the team's success last season,"
general manager Francois Giguere said. "We are expecting him to be
a huge offensive contributor to our team again this season."

Svatos also made his Olympic debut with Slovakia at the Torino
Games, playing in all six games. The native of Kosice, Slovakia,
was the 227th overall pick in the 2001 draft.
