Blue Jackets reward Westcott with three-year deal

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Duvie Westcott was rewarded for a
career season.

The Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday signed the defenseman to a
three-year contract extension.

Terms were not disclosed.

Westcott, 28, established career highs in last season in goals
(six), assists (22), points (28) and games (78). He also had a
rating of plus-1 to go along with 133 penalty minutes.

"Since joining our organization as an undrafted free agent in
2001, Duvie has worked incredibly hard to become a very good,
two-way NHL defenseman," Blue Jackets general manager Doug
MacLean said. "On the ice, he plays with passion and
consistency every night. Off the ice, he is a tremendous person
who is liked and respected by his teammates."

In 155 career games with the Blue Jackets, Westcott has
collected six goals, 36 assists and 251 penalty minutes.
