Coyotes waive backup goalie Morrison

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The struggling Phoenix Coyotes placed backup goalie Mike Morrison on waivers on Wednesday and recalled two players from their AHL affiliate in San Antonio.

Morrison was 0-3-0 with a 6.14 goals-against average in four appearances for the Coyotes. The move leaves Curtis Joseph as the only goaltender on the Phoenix roster.

Although no official announcement was made, the team is expected to bring up 23-year-old goalie David LeNeveu from San Antonio on Thursday to back up Joseph.

Morrison gave up three first-period goals before being benched by coach Wayne Gretzky in the team's 6-1 loss at Calgary on Tuesday night.

Phoenix recalled center Donald MacLean and defenseman Matt Jones from the AHL's Rampage.

MacLean has four goals and two assists in nine games with San Antonio this season. The Coyotes signed MacLean as a free agent in July.

Jones, 23, has one assist in nine games with the Rampage. He was the Coyotes' third-round pick in the 2002 NHL entry draft and played in 16 games with Phoenix last season.

The Coyotes are 2-8 and have lost four in a row going into Thursday night's home game against Edmonton.
