Giguere, the NHL leader with 23 victories this season, was hurt
while trying to move post-to-post as San Jose rookie Joe Pavelski
skated behind his net. The goalie apparently got his skate caught
near the post, and he crumpled to the ice as Steve Bernier scored
the tying goal with 3:36 left in the period.
After remaining motionless on the ice for several moments,
Giguere skated gingerly to the locker room. He entered the game
with the NHL's third-best goals-against average at 2.12 while
playing in each of the Ducks' last 14 games.
Giguere was replaced by Michael Wall, a 21-year-old rookie
filling in while Ilya Bryzgalov recovers from a strained groin.
Wall had played in just one previous NHL game, winning 5-3 against
Calgary on Nov. 26.
Anaheim and San Jose were tied 3-3 entering the third period.
