Rangers defenseman Girardi signs two-year extension worth $3.1 million

NEW YORK -- Rangers defenseman Daniel Girardi received a two-year contract extension Saturday worth $3.1 million.

The deal with Girardi, 23 and in his second NHL season, was announced during New York's 5-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres. He could've become a restricted free agent on July 1.

Girardi has eight goals and 14 assists this season and has played in all 60 games.
