"It's not a structural problem with anything," coach Dan Bylsma said after the Penguins' 7-2 victory. "He's just been banged up."
Team spokeswoman Jen Bullano said Malkin was day to day.
Malkin missed the game after logging a season-low 16 minutes, 26 seconds in a home win over Atlanta on Thursday.
He participated in the Penguins' morning skate on Saturday, but the coaching staff decided to keep him out of the game.
Malkin has eight goals and 14 assists in 26 games this season.
