He also assisted on Ilya Kovalchuk's first-period tally.","spin":"Ponikarovsky is perhaps the unlikeliest of heroes, as he'd recorded just two assists and 10 shots on goal in the first nine games of the playoffs. He certainly clicked with his countryman Kovalchuk in this game, and could see more time opposite him in Game 4.","date":"Thu May 3"},"fullName":"Alexei Ponikarovsky","seasonOutlook":{"outlook":"Ponikarovsky hasn't been all that productive a player since a Cinderella season in 2008-09 with the Toronto Maple Leafs. After he overproduced on a top line with Nik Antropov and Matt Stajan that season, Ponikarovsky's perceived value has been greater than it should be. Despite having the opportunity to secure a role alongside such centermen as Sidney Crosby and Anze Kopitar during the past two seasons, Poni's production has come up short of being fantasy relevant. Could a recharge with the Carolina Hurricanes and the chance to play with Eric Staal make him a 60-point player again? Maybe. But probably not.","seasonId":2012,"date":"Fri Sep 9"},"playerRater30DAY":0.9,"playerRater15DAY":1.9,"positionRank":53}

Ponikarovsky's First Playoff Goal For Devils Is Ot Winner
From Elias: Alexei Ponikarovsky's first playoff goal for the Devils earned New Jersey a 4-3 overtime victory and a two-games-to-one lead in their series against the Flyers. He's the first player in Devils franchise history whose first postseason goal for the club was scored in overtime. Ponikarovsky has scored one other game-winning goal in the playoffs in his NHL career and it also came against the Flyers - for the Maple Leafs in 2004.
