No doubt the Parise-Kovalchuk connection was very strong for the New Jersey Devils last season, but don't think Parise was responsible for all the success. Even as recently as 2009-10, Kovalchuk played on an Atlanta Thrashers line that held some mix of Maxim Afinogenov, Nik Antropov and Bryan Little, while he scored 31 goals in 49 games. Don't think for a second that the Devils can't provide support comparable to that lot for Kovalchuk in the coming season. Kovalchuk is -- no bones about it -- one of the best snipers in the NHL, and he'll be set up for another run at elite production without Parise at his side. Really, the big question surrounding Kovalchuk is who will benefit from being his linemates -- not whether his linemates will help him.","seasonId":2013,"date":"Thu Jan 10"},"playerRater30DAY":-0.3,"playerRater15DAY":2.3,"positionRank":19}
