Gaborik Scores 3, Wins Mvp
From Elias: Marian Gaborik was named the Most Valuable Player in the 2012 NHL All-Star Game for his three-goal performance in leading Team Chara to a 12-9 win over Team Alfredsson. Gaborik was the first player to record a hat trick for the winning team in an NHL All-Star Game since Bill Guerin did so for the North American All-Stars in 2001. The three hat tricks between the ones by Guerin and Gaborik were tallied by players on the losing side: Dany Heatley (Eastern Conference) in 2003, Joe Sakic (Western Conference) in 2004, and Rick Nash (Western Conference) in 2008.

There were plenty of convenient excuses available for the Rangers heading into Tuesday’s match against Winnipeg -- an emotional letdown after Saturday’s dramatic win over Boston, the temptation to look ahead toward a five-day break, an oversight of a struggling and tired Jets squad.
