It was the team's second season in coach Todd Richards' system and two new defensive forwards had been brought in (Matt Cullen and John Madden). Though Backstrom's ratios did improve a touch, he was nowhere near his previously elite levels from seasons past; in his first three NHL seasons (2006-07 through 2008-09), he put up 23, 33 and 37 wins while putting up a 2.24 GAA and a .929 SV% over that period. Backstrom was banged up during the 2010-11 season, and he revealed after the season that he was struggling with a nagging shoulder injury. There's some reason for optimism, however. In 10 February starts, Backstrom looked like the player of old, posting a 1.69 GAA and .940 SV% over that span. Bearing in mind that doing the same thing twice and expecting different results is one definition of insanity, he is a great value pick on the chance that he may put up a vintage season in 2011-12.","seasonId":2012,"date":"Fri Sep 9"},"playerRater30DAY":-1.5,"playerRater15DAY":1.5,"positionRank":19}
