Hejda Scores Late Game-winning Goal
Defenseman Jan Hejda scored with 7.6 seconds remaining in the third period to snap a 3-3 tie and enable the Avalanche to post a 4-3 win over the Canucks. It was only the second tiebreaking goal scored in the final ten seconds of the third period in an NHL game this season. The other such goal was also scored by a defenseman: Detroit's Jonathan Ericsson against the Kings on February 10 (19:55 of the third period). Hejda is the first player in Quebec/Colorado franchise history to score a tiebreaking goal in the final ten seconds of the third period. Before Saturday, the latest third-period go-ahead goal by a Nordiques or Avalanche player was by Colorado's Dan Hinote at the 19:48 mark on April 3, 2006 versus Chicago.
