Varlamov Stays Unbeaten In Shootouts
From Elias: The outcome of the shootout that earned the Avalanche a 3-2 victory over the Oilers on Saturday held true to form, as it matched Colorado's Semyon Varlamov (6-0 in six previous shootouts this season) and Edmonton's Nikolai Khabibulin (0-3 in shootouts this season and 7-17 over the last five seasons). The Avalanche scored on both of its shots against Khabibulin and the Oilers failed on their two attempts against Varlamov. Varlamov, who has given up only two goals on the 21 shootout attempts he has faced this season, is the fourth goaltender to win his first seven shootouts in one season since the NHL began using the tiebreaker in 2005. The other goaltenders to do that were the Stars' Marty Turco in 2005-06 (first eight), the Oilers' Mathieu Garon in 2007-08 (all 10) and the Kings' Jonathan Quick in 2010-11 (all 10).

Varlamov Ties A Patrick Roy Record
From Elias: Semyon Varlamov has four shutouts in his first season with the Avalanche and all of them have come on the road, including a 2-0 win at Minnesota on Sunday. Varlamov's four road shutouts match the single-season franchise record for a Quebec/Colorado goaltender set by Patrick Roy with the Avs in 2001-2002.
