From Elias: Alec Martinez, Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams scored first-period goals and those were enough for the visiting Kings to defeat the Ducks, 4-2. (Los Angeles added an empty-net goal with 11 seconds remaining in the game.) The Kings have now scored 15 first-period goals over their last eight games, their highest total over an eight-game single-season span since they scored 18 opening-period goals over eight games in the middle of the 1995-96 season. Yes, that was Wayne Gretzky's final season in L.A. (he was traded to St. Louis on February 27); the Great One had two goals and seven assists in the first period during that eight-game flurry.
